2014 Oscar Short Film: Live Action

This year's nominees for best live action short film are:

Avant que de Tout Perdre (Just Before Losing Everything) -- Xavier Legrand and Alexandre Gavras
A tense, taut, unsentimental film about a woman attempting to flee her abusive husband.

The Voorman Problem -- Mark Gill and Baldwin Li

A prison psychiatrist faces off with an inmate who believes he is a god.

Pitääkö Mun Kaikki Hoitaa? (Do I Have to Take Care of Everything?) -- Selma Vilhunen and Kirsikka Saari
An amusing look at chaotic family life.

Helium -- Anders Walter and Kim Magnusson

A dying boy looks forward to traveling to Helium, a fantastical world described to him by his friend, the hospital janitor.

Aquel No Era Yo (That Wasn't Me) -- Esteban Crespo
Spanish aid workers encounter African child soldiers.
If you only have thirty minutes to spend watching a short film this year, make it Avant que de Tout Perdre (Just Before Losing Everything). The sound of high heels clicking on a tile floor may haunt your dreams.

Thank you The Charles Theater for screening Oscar shorts!
